Peachtree Ridge improves to 4-1 with win over Berkmar

SUWANEE — Peachtree Ridge’s football team kept rolling Friday with a 46-6 win over Berkmar in the Region 7-AAAAAAA opener.

The Lions are 4-1, surpassing last year’s three-win season already and hitting the four-win mark the earliest in a season since 2013.

Peachtree Ridge led 25-0 at halftime after closing the first half with two Josh Evans touchdowns, a 19-yard pass to Nathaniel Crownie and a 2-yard run. The Lions also had a safety and a 24-yard Mohamed Ahmed field goal in the first half, along with a 9-yard scoring run from Ladavius Dye.

In the third quarter, Berkmar’s Justin Mitchell had a 4-yard TD run before Hunter Sheppard threw two TD passes, a 12-yarder to King Thomas and a 12-yarder to Tyeion Cofield. Rocco Vaughn added a 3-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Sheppard was 9 of 14 passing for 114 yards, and Evans went 3-for-6 for 63 yards. Mitchell rushed nine times for 45 yards and threw for 86 yards to lead Berkmar, while the Patriots’ Maleek Gibbs had three catches for 79 yards.
